Foreign film

A foreign film is a film from a foreign country. Many people throughout the world think that the vast majority of films are from the USA and, more specifically, productions from Hollywood. However this is not the case as Mumbai and Hong Kong produce large numbers of films on a yearly basis; but these films rarely make the mainstream worldwide cinema or are ever brought out of their native country unlike most films produced in Hollywood. French films have been at the fore front of innovation and experimentation since film's inception.

Inside the US, Canada and the UK the term mostly applies to films made, in a language other than English. However, this term is used more correctly by filmmakers for what is also called world cinema.
