Footwork(ing) is a fast footed style of dance style. This dance is street born on the south and west sides of Chicago. It involves a frenetically stomp and hard stutter steps. When you see the dance style it looks as if the dance style combines tap dance, break-dance, River dance, and even some African tribal moves before the beginning of the battle everyone gathers in a circle, while the two combatants compete in the middle of the circle. This style of dance is usually portrayed at juke parties or juke-athons but mostly urban parties that play juke music. Juke music is a form music with a fast tempo, specifically made for footworking and juking. Most critics say that it is the Chicago’s answer to “Krumping”, the street born dance of Los Angeles. There are a lot of moves that you can identify if you are a footwork dancer like: The 40’s this is a dance in which the dancers feet are penetrating back and forth in a sprawling action in which it look like the dancer is riding on a horse. Ticking is also very familiar in the footworking world, it is a form of a dance called a bob (dropping the waistline abruptly and popping the back out). Juke is a word used along with footworking to describe the way a girl dances on a guy, it can be another name for the word footworking, or it can be the type of atmosphere at a party. Chicago is the place where House music was originated but also where footworking was originated. There are many types of footworking teams in the Chicago area such as: Creations, 187, and Heat Squad, etc. They battle all over the place. They also are featured publicly nowadays like the Footworkingz who performed for Madonna’s spring promo tour.
