First Indian Constitution Day

The Indian Constitution is the Supreme Law of the land and was adopted by Constituent Assembly on 26 November 1949, and came into effect on 26 January 1950. Dr. Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar is known as chief architect of the Indian constitution, he was also the Chairman of Drafting Committee which is also the most dynamic constitution in the world. The dynamism is maintained with the help of amendments by keeping in mind the diversity and their upcoming requirements in the process of developing a new modern state.
The constitution which India adopted has influence of many other constitutions across the world. Features like Parliamentary form of government, Rule of Law were taken from the British Constitution, Concurrent List from the Australian constitution, Fundamental Rights and Judicial Review from the American Constitution, Directive principles of state policy from Irish Constitution. Many parts of constitutions are also taken from the Government of India Act-1935.

The preamble in the constitution declares India a sovereign, socialist, secular, democratic republic, assuring its citizens of justice, equality and fraternity among them.
26 November 2015 is declared as National Constitution Day. Till 2014 this day was celebrated as National Law Day.
