Drew Fortier is a Musician/Filmmaker from Chicago, Illinois known for being the creator of the documentary Attack of Life: The Bang Tango Movie as well as being the rhythm guitarist for funk-infused alternative metal band Bang Tango
Biography
Drew Fortier's music/filmmaking career began almost on accident. Drew met Joe Leste' and Bang Tango while working at a small club on the south side of Chicago. Drew happened to be walking around with a video camera and after hitting it off with the band, Joe asked Drew if he would be interested in shooting a short studio documentary for Bang Tango since they were going to be recording at Johnny K's Groovemaster Studios shortly there after.
With absolutely no knowledge or formal training in filmmaking this then would then become a soul crushing 4-year project.
After getting in contact with the original members of Bang Tango and learning about their compelling story, Drew quickly realized that this project deserved to much more than a studio documentary and then approached it as a full on feature-length documentary film on the career of MTV legends Bang Tango.
Drew tackled the project in true guerrilla fashion learning how to shoot and edit through trial and error throughout the whole 4-year process.
After 4 years of collecting and shooting 400 hours of footage(with help from producer/cinematographer Anu Gunn) countless interviews from mega producers, well known musicians, & friends of the band, an opening narration from Dee Snider as well as many hours of tour footage, Drew himself edited together what would become Attack of Life: The Bang Tango Movie.
Drew screened the film in Chicago in April 2015 with the current line up of the band in attendance. The screening was a success and went on to be acclaimed in countless online publications as well as music websites.
The same week of the screening, Drew performed rhythm guitar with the band for fun at their show at Red Line Tap in Chicago, IL. Little did Drew know, this would be another life changing event for him.
That Friday Drew received a phone call from Bang Tango Frontman Joe Leste'. "Drew, how would you feel about playing in front of 20,000 people with us at the M3 Festival in Maryland?". Without hesitation, Drew rented a car then proceeded to drive 12 hours straight from Chicago to Maryland to perform with Bang Tango. He has since become an official member of the band alongside Rowan Robertson (Lead Guitar), Lance Eric (Bass), Timmy Russell (Drums), and original frontman Joe Leste'.
Though due to music licensing issues, Drew's Attack of Life: The Bang Tango Movie has not been officially released, but can be found online if searched for.
