Fiona McIlwham

Fiona May Joan McIlwham (born 31 December 1973) is a British diplomat and was the British Ambassador to the Republic of Albania, a position she held from 2009 to 2012, becoming one of the youngest British ambassadors. In 2012 she took up her current post as a Senior Adviser to the Director-General of Enlargement in the European Commission.
Early life
She was born in Guildford, Surrey.
Mcilwham attended St John's College, Cambridge, where she gained a BA in 1995 in Philosophy and Social and Political Sciences. In 1998 she gained an MSc in Development Economics from the School of Oriental and African Studies..
Career
She joined the FCO in 1998 after work in Sudan, Bangladesh and Brussels at the European Commission. She has held a variety of posts in London and overseas, including in Bosnia-Herzegovina, Washington DC, and Iraq before returning to Brussels.
Ambassador
On 29 May 2009 she became the Ambassador to Albania. Her appointment was announced in February 2009.
