FEU Advocate

Far Eastern University (FEU) Advocate ("The Advocate", "Advo") is the official student publication of Far Eastern University-Manila. It was established on June 12, 1934 and became one of the most esteemed newspapers in the country, recognized for its intrepid reporting and intelligent commentary on issues both within and outside the University. It is currently being published monthly. FEU Advocate holds its editorial office at Room 103 Education Building, Far Eastern University-Manila.
History
Pre-Martial Law

The forerunner of the "Advocate" was an unnamed ten-page tabloid released in June 12, 1934. The issue announced a contest for the selection of a name for the official student publication. It also called for applicants to the various positions in the staff.
In a later issue, the paper already carried the name "Advocate". Vicente Albano Pacis (then Editor of the Philippine Herald), in his capacity as adviser, appointed Oscar Contreras editor. Saturnino Aricheta succeeded him in the second semester of 1934.
Aricheta recognized the student leaders of the defunct Far Eastern College (later merged with the Institute of Accounts, Business and Finance to become Far Eastern University) for conceiving the idea of an official FEU student paper. The group succeeded in convincing the late President Nicanor Reyes, Sr. of the necessity of having a student publication.
The first Advocate editor to become president of the College Editors Guild of the Philippines was Amado A. Munda (1939-1940).
