Federal Vampire and Zombie Agency
|
The United States Federal Vampire and Zombie Agency, U.S. F.V.Z.A. or simply, F.V.Z.A., is a fictional U.S. Government agency, dealing with Vampires, Zombies, and the paranormal.
Overview
The F.V.Z.A. is also known as a satirical alternate history web site that purports to be a tribute to the agency once responsible for controlling the USA's vampire and zombie populations. The site's fictional author is Hugo Pecos, former F.V.Z.A. director now living in retirement in New Mexico. The site includes historical tales, famous cases and a Virtual Academy where users can solve cases and take an aptitude test. The site has also added information on werewolves.
History
The site premiered in 2001 and within a year had kicked off numerous debates about its veracity on the Internet. It was selected as a "Hot Site" in the April 4, 2003, edition of USA Today, where the paper stated: "never mind the newly-created Department of Homeland Security, it's the Federal Vampire and Zombie Agency that's really keeping an eye out for you." The site also was featured in an August 2003 segment of MTV's Big Urban Myth Show, and in the June 23, 2006, edition of Google Current.
Dr. Pecos has done a number of radio interviews, including twice on the The Hideout show with El Jefe and JDubs, and he served as the resident expert for Internet film critic David Templeton's review of the George Romero movie Land of the Dead.
The I.V.Z.A.
The international equivalent of the F.V.Z.A. is the I.V.Z.A. The I.V.Z.A. is an acronym, which stands for International Vampire and Zombie Agency. The I.V.Z.A's roles and responsibilities deal with countries outside than the United States, and is nearly identical to the F.V.Z.A.
