FastPencil is the first self-publishing platform that allows authors to write, share, publish and sell their books. FastPencil has headquarters in Campbell, California, United States.
FastPencil offers printing and publishing services in addition to “Guided Collaboration”: direct communication with editors, other authors, and like-minded individuals. The company enables authors to sell their books through Amazon and Barnes & Noble.
The company's co-founders are CTO Michael "Mash" Ashley and CEO Steve Wilson.
Authors who publish/print books through FastPencil retain the copyrights to such works.
The online self=publishing service was launched online in July 2009.
The first step, after registration, is to create a project - anything from a 10-chapter novel to turning a blog into a book or e-book is available. When the author is ready to publish, it goes through a long list of features and settings that can be controlled, including legal considerations, ISBN, the covers, the size and templates, the spine, and even the price. The author can add reviewers and editors to the project at any time by inviting them to the project.
Process
To sign up for FastPencil enter your name and email address . If you plan to only self-publish a single book about your family history or make a career as an expert in your field, FastPencil gives you complete control every step of the way.
Writers can the service to create, share and publish their original works, convert their blogs to books and modify one of the many FastPencil Classics to personalize it. After signing up for the service, FastPencilers can select a book template and begin writing, paste in text from previously saved work or upload their blog, which is automatically formatted into chapters. They can also add photos and illustrations to help make the content more engaging.
At any time during the creative process writers can invite their social network , fellow authors and FastPencil experts to review and provide comments on the book. Once the book is complete, the FastPencil self-publishing wizard steps the authors through the process of having their book delivered to their doorsteps, formatted for e-books or listed at online bookstores, such as Amazon and Barnes & Noble.
