The Famous Back Four was a nickname used for the defensive quintet at Arsenal. It consisted of club captain Tony Adams, defenders Steve Bould and Martin Keown and full backs Lee Dixon and Nigel Winterburn. This back five was well-known for the Offside Trap signal whenever an opposition attack was on. This was even spoofed in the film The Full Monty, once. The back five was broken when Steve Bould left in 1998 and and followed by Dixon, Adams and Winterburn retiring two years later and Keown was the last surviving member of that back five. He eventually left in 2004 and then had a short stint at Reading before retiring.
