Obviously, the types of players at your disposal can have an effet on your season, as there is no real point in using a defensive formation if you have a team of creative superstars. Below is the standard 4-4-2 formation, with suitable player roles:-
*GK
*LB- Left backs should be set as full backs with the role as automatic. This means they will go forward when attacking, but will stay back when defending.
*RB- Right backs should be set as full backs with the role as automatic. This means they will go forward when attacking, but will stay back when defending
*CB- One centre-back should be aerially dominant, have good strength, be good at jumping and be willing to tackle (usually over 6Ft)Player role should be defend.
*CB- One centre-back should be mobile (high pace and acceleration), good at marking and tackling and be a little shorter. Player role should be defend.
*ML- Left midfielders should be set as wingers, and have player roles of attack. They should be pacy, good at crossing and good at dribbling.
*MR- Right midfielders should be set as wingers, and have player roles of attack. They should be pacy, good at crossing and good at dribbling.

*MC- One central midfielder should be an avanced playmaker, with a player role of support. They should be good at passing, have good flair and technique and also be good at set pieces.
*FC- One centre forward should be deep lying and have a player role of support.
*FC- One centre forward should be an advanced forward with player role of attack.
* Alternatively, one FC could be smaller and be a poacher who attacks, while the other centre forward could be a big target man with the player role of support.
*This formation is very basic, and the tactics are alo basic. If you want to defend a lead maybe in the last ten minutes, move to a contain, defensive or counter style of football, use touchline instructions such as retainpossession and pass to feet or use the hassle opponents instructions. Generally, if the opposition is the better side and you are away, it is better to be defensive. If the opposition is worse than you, trying to hang on or away, you should be more attacking. If the oppositon is attacking thought the centre, play narrower, whilst i the opposition are playing down the flanks, play wider .When a player is in a position on the tactics screen, click the position and see if the player stats are high for the highlighted attributes. This will help to see i they are suitable for the player roles. Remeber, if you have a team or superstars, it is probably best for you to use a controlling style of play. Make sure you have a formation with tactics that suit your team. You ca also listen to your assistant manager who does suggest the best formations for your team.
