Fairfield County Infirmary is a building in Fairfield County, Ohio. It opened in 1828 as a small, wooden building. The year it opened, it had reached full capacity, and people who were destitute, mentally ill, physically disabled, elderly, and orphaned could receive food, clothing, shelter and medical care. In 1905, the infirmary reached its height in "inmates" at 82 patients. In 1924, an mentally insane inmate rushed up to the superintendent and hit him in the head with a metal pipe. In 1940, the infirmary needed more space and a new brick structure was built. A cemetery lies behind the building, but some graves are unmarked. To meet the demands of the people, electricity, gas, and water lines were ran 3,857 feet. One of the spirits who still remains is 73-year-old Jane Householder, who caught fire while turning on a stove. In the 1851 Lancaster Gazette, the newspaper reported on the brutal beatings patients got from the superintendent. In 1985, the Fairfield County Infirmary closed. Paranormal On the third floor, a large jail cell door is seen opening and closing by itself. Also on the third floor, a spirit named Willy is seen wandering around. Susie is a spirit of a little girl, who is looking for a playmate. In the attic, a 7-foot shadow figure lurks around. The superintendent roams the property, still thinking he is in charge. Often occurrences inside include doors closing, equipment not working, footsteps, and voices. In room 322, people have made contact with a unknown spirit, who is seen standing by the window.
