Cwtch Community Group

Cwtch Community Group is a diverse group of people who took up residence in the Dolphin Hotel in the city center of Swansea, in January 2012. The Dolphin Hotel is a large 66 room derelict building surrounded by businesses, and has been turned into a free of charge café on the ground floor by the occupiers. The word "cwtch" is Welsh for cuddle.
Background
In January 2010, the Dolphin Hotel was closed, the company owning the property having gone into liquidation the previous year. Swiss based bank UBS became the effective landlord, with the local county council remaining the freeholder. Some two years later, the Cwtch Community Group gained access to the building via an open window, a common practice under the England and Wales legal system.
The community members who have occupied the building include an A-Level Student, a Civil Servant and a Grandmother. The Group's spokesperson, a Graphic Designer, is also a member of the Swansea Occupy movement.
