Company History
Back in 1978 a Dutch company opened a plant in Ballaghdereen in the West of Ireland to manufacture cigar bobbins (casings). Much has changed in terms of the ownership of the business and the technology employed starting in 1980 when Gerry O’Dowd was appointed General Manager. Whilst Irish operation was profitable the parent company struggled. Production at the plant came to a halt in 1990 and Gerry O’Dowd bought the business from the administrator.
Shortly afterwards Villiger took a majority stake and soon the company was back employing over 70 staff locally, manufacturing for Villiger and own-name/private labels. By 1998, the factory was churning out between 35 million and 40 million cigars a year.
