Excelsior Field

Excelsior Field is a Battle of Gettysburg, Second Day, site along both the Wheatfield Road and Sickles Avenue.
The grassy field was the first position of the McGilvery's Artillery Brigade
as well as the Excelsior Brigade which, "in resisting the assault of the enemy along the line of Road", was "flanked out of that position by" McLaws' Assault.

The Exelsior monument was dedicated on July, 2, 1893 (1890 markers for the regiments were erected in 1915),
and the McGilvery Artillery Brigade bronze tablet was erected on November 25, 1912, on McGilvery Avenue in Excelsior Field (McGilvery Av was subsequently removed).
Monuments in the field also include those for the 139th Pennsylvania Infantry, the 7th New Jersey Infantry Regiment, and the Battery B monument (1st New Jersey Light Artillery),.
