European Universities Games

European Universities Games (EUG) is a multi-sport university sports competition governed by the European University Sports Association (EUSA). Participants in these events are European university teams and individuals.
The Games are organised on a biannual basis, starting with 2012, with European Universities Championships being organised in even years as the individual events. The Games will host over 2500 student athletes competing in 10 sports at the same place at the same time. The Games as such represent the largest European multisport student event.
History
Under the umbrella of EUSA, the first European Universities Games will be organised in 2012 in Cordoba, Spain between July 13 and 24, 2012. The 1st edition of EUG was attributed by EUSA in March 2010. Other candidates were also Lisbon, Portugal and Lodz, Poland.
Sports, featured at the 1st European Universities Games: basketball, handball, football, futsal, rugby 7s, volleyball, badminton, beach-volleyball, table tennis and tennis.
The 2nd edition of EUG will be attributed in November 2011. Two cities are competing for the organisation of the 2014 Games: Rotterdam, Netherlands and Wroclaw, Poland.
Sports
Within the EUG, 10 sports are organised. The selection of the sports is out of the following:
Compulsory - 8 sports: Basketball, Football, Futsal, Handball, Volleyball, Badminton, Tennis, Table Tennis;
Optional - 2 sports out of 4: Beach-Volleyball, Golf, Rowing, Rugby 7’s.
