Ethan Cords (born October 12, 1996) is a politician from Owatonna, Minnesota. Education Ethan Cords graduated from Owatonna High School in 2015 and attended a semester at Minnesota State University, Mankato, before deciding to become a politician. Political career Cords's political career began while he was young by helping Owatonna mayor Tom Kuntz run for House District 26A in 2008. During high school, Kuntz mentored Cords to help him gain more political knowledge. On March 1, 2016, Cords was unanimously elected DFL precinct chair of his district. Shortly after, Cords went on to become a party delegate at the state and congressional level and a director of the Steele County DFL. Cords is also a member of the U.S. Highway 14 Partnership and is a known advocate for rural highway expansion, public transit and high-speed rail. 2016 City Council campaign After meeting with local party leaders, the chamber of commerce and a few local politicians, Cords decided to run for city council member at large. His goals include bringing more businesses to Owatonna, encouraging sustainable development in downtown, and building regional transportation links such as the U.S. Highway 14 expansion and a new intercity train line to Minneapolis. 2022 Gubernatorial campaign Cords will run for Governor of Minnesota, in 2022. His plan for the state includes $2.5 billion over a ten-year period of dedicated funding for the state rail plan and public-transit-related projects, the legalization of cannabis, raising the minimum wage to reduce poverty and income inequality, and effectuating a transition of Minnesota's electric system to provide over 50 percent renewable energy by 2030.
