"The U" is a form of abbreviation used to refer to local universities in given geographic areas. While use of the term can be attributed in mention of virtually any tertiary institution, it is most often used in reference to flagship universities. This is due to their relatively large enrollments and their long histories in their respective areas, often giving much of the general populace a great sense of pride and ownership in their respective institution. The U is used to refer to: * University of Miami * University of Minnesota * University of South Dakota * University of Utah * University of Washington La U is the nickname of the Universitario de Deportes, a Peruvian football (soccer) team. |
