Ervin Wolfe

Ervin R. "Red" Wolfe, (April 22, 1922- September 18, 1991) was a professional jazz trumpet player in the Minneapolis, Minnesota area. He started playing trumpet at age 11 in Sauk Centre, MN, and began his professional music career in Minneapolis in 1937. He was a buglemaster on the during World War II, and returned to Minneapolis to continue his music career after the war. In 1956, he retired from the music business and began work for the Minneapolis Star and Tribune as a circulation supervisor in Shakopee, MN. In 1978, he took an early retirement and devoted himself full time once again to his professional music career. He played at jazz festivals throughout the Upper Midwest, and developed a school program to bring Dixieland jazz to students, performing before more than 100,000 students.
He released 5 albums during this time, and played on several others. He died in 1991 [http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?pagegr&GSmid47878918&GRid=3517658& September 18, 1991], and was inducted into the Minnesota Music Hall of Fame shortly after his death.
