Eric Ward, born to an American/Canadian father and a Canadian mother in the US, spent much of his upbringing traveling. His father is an international geophysicist and this cause the family to move around a lot. In his adult years, Ward got into extreme off roading after moving to Colorado and uses his modified Hummer H1 for search & rescue operations as well as volunteering with the American Red Cross as part of the HOPE, initiative to assist with deep-water evacuation post-natural disaster situations. Ward was involved with creating the Hummer movie "Moab: Like Nothing Else", produced by IMV Films Ward has also been very active in the Gumball 3000 road rally. During the race in 2006, the race around the world in 8 days, he (as character "Dr Gruene") and his partner Torquenstein tied for first place finish with friends Alex Roy and Michael Ross from Team Polizei. Ward and partner Torquenstein were driving a 2005 Ford GT with many additions such as 2 smoke-screen systems, lazer jammers front and rear, 4 radar detectors/locators, and more. Although placement is not published by Gumball 3000 staff, Ward and his partner dominated the rally always closely ahead of or behind friends Team Polizei they ended up deciding to tie with. Ward was invited to do the race again in 2008 to navigate for a 3-car team but this time with a different partner. Ward also dominated this years rally with co-driver/model Ashley VanDyke in a new Mercedes E-Series AMG.
