Epsom Hospital Radio broadcasts on Channel One of Patientline to the Patients of Epsom General Hospital in Epsom, Surrey, England.
Epsom Hospital Radio is a registered charity and is staffed by volunteers.
Ruddles The Bear In 1979, the station got a bear to use as a mascot at outside broadcasts. but the bear didn't have a name, so a "Name the Bear" competition was run in a local newspaper.
Ruddles was the name that came out top.
As time went by, ruddles became forgotten, and worked his way into the room where the outside broadcast kit was stored.
At one point someone even tried to throw him out, but he was rescued from the skip by Epsom Hospital Radio's presenters, George Holland.
New website On the 9th July, Epsom Hospital Radio launched its new website, a much needed improvement on the site we used before.
When the website was being developed by Andy Tijou, permission was sought from the BBC Radio 2 from whom Epsom Hospital Radio take an over night feed to display their logo on the "on-air" now area of the homepage.
This was declined, so an alternative was sought.
The resurrection of Ruddles Ruddles was bought out of retirement to be the face of Epsom Hospital Radio at the times when the station is off air.
Currently he plays Radio 2, when Myriad is up and running, Ruddles will be the Presenter when no-one else is around to do a show.
Events & Outside Broadcasts Many of the volunteers at Epsom Hospital Radio help to raise money for the station by providing music for local school fetes, firework displays, partys, wedding, 5-a-side football tournaments, and the Epsom 10K run.
This is one of the two main sources of income for the Epsom Hospital Radio, the other is through the patients guide.
