Eoin McDowell

Eoin McDowell (born February 4, 1988) is a rugby player who plays for University College Dublin RFC (UCD).
Schools rugby
Eoin played for the Gonzaga College Panthers from 2004-2006, reaching the final of the Leinster Forsters Cup in 2006. He broke a metacarpal in the semi-final against Blackrock College and subsequently missed the final. Former head Coach, Gareth Pelly, has gone on record saying Eoin's abrasive physical presence was sorely missed and one of the primary reasons for the defeat at the hands of Belvedere College in the final.
His team also won the Leinster Junior league in 2003.
Club rugby
Wanderers
After finishing his schooling Eoin chose to play for Wanderers, where he forged a Second Row partnership with Fergus O'Higgins. According to winger Daniel Bergin, his "athleticism in the air meant we were unrivalled come line-out time". It has been suggested by leading Wanderers board members that he could take over from Malcolm O'Kelly in the Leinster side.
UCD
In 2008 UCD persuaded Eoin to sign on the dotted line and become a member of the famed Collidge Super 4s. He has been quoted as saying "nothing gives me more pride than running onto the pitch in my college colours."
After an injury interrupted first season, the 09/10 season saw McDowell and the Collidge side reach new heights. Promotion was secured through a comfortable 32-5 playoff victory. The highlight of McDowell's season was undoubtably scoring the match winning try against bitter rivals, Trinity College. This was later voted "Try of the Season" by his fellow players.
Personal
In the off season, Eoin is known as a passionate competitor in tetrathlons, which allows him to keep his fitness levels up during for the summer months.
