An ídeal team is a selection of the best players of a team sport. Some team sports leagues and media organize an ideal team selection at the end of each season. In other cases, sports-related organizations vote for an ideal team for a region or time period, as a way to promote the sport's history. Sometimes, votes are cast by fans. These ideal teams are rarely fielded in a competition, unlike teams of all-star games. The selection of ideal team members is typically based only on the performance of each member in their actual team during the season, not considering how would different members interact with each other. In North America Major North American professional sports leagues have a long tradition of nominating ideal teams. In professional basketball, the All-NBA Team has been selected since the creation of the league in 1946/47, where a panel of journalists select a first, second a third ideal team with two forwards, one center and two guards each. In professional baseball, managers and coaches pick the ideal defensive team at the Gold Glove Awards for the American League and National League since 1970, and the ideal offensive team at the Silver Slugger Award since 1980. An all-time Gold Glove Team was nominated in 2007 by players, managers and journalists as well. Baseball Magazine also nominated All-America, All-American League and All-National League baseball teams. In professional hockey, the NHL All-Star Team has been awarded by journalists since 1930/31, with a first and second team. Also, the NHL All-Rookie Team has been nominated since 1982/83. In professional American football, several organizations have nominated All-Pro ideal teams of the National Football League since the early 1920s, including the Associated Press and the Pro Football Writers Association. In college sports, ideal teams are called All-America, for example the College Baseball All-America Team, College Football All-America Team, NCAA Men's Basketball All-Americans and . The Americas' Ideal Team has been nominated by Latin American journalists since 1986, with footballers in Latin American teams. L'Equipe also nominates an World Eleven and a Ligue 1 Eleven. The IFFHS organized a 20th Century South American Team, selected by professionals in 1998. The Conmebol published a Historic Copa América Team in 2011. In the 1990s, world's football governing body FIFA started to created a number of ideal team awards. The FIFA World Cup All-Time Team was selected in 1994 by the organization for the best players in the history of the FIFA World Cup. A similar award was nominated by fans in 2002, the FIFA World Cup Dream Team. The was created by the technical study group in 2006 for each FIFA World Cup up to 2006, whereas the 2010 team was voted by fans.
