Endless Pools

Endless Pools, Inc. is an American privately-owned company that manufactures residential and commercial counter-current swimming machines. It was founded in 1988 in Aston, Pennsylvania by James Murdock, who built his first swimming machine on the pool deck of Columbia University. Working with the Columbia men's swim coach, he sought to create a machine with a smooth, even, adjustable current for swimming, therapy, training and fun.
The inspiration for the Endless Pool came decades earlier in Arizona, where James' father, John, learned to swim in aqueducts. John, an amateur inventor, built his own "swimming machine" in the 1950s in order to explore the idea of swimming in place against a current.
Over the years, the Endless Pool has taken several forms as the Murdocks, both engineers, and their design team worked to improve the laminar current. Endless Pools now manufactures The Fastlane, a swim current for existing pools; the WaterWell, an exercise and therapy pool without a swim current; and the Endless Pool Swim Spa, a swimming machine and spa in a one-piece acrylic shell and the Fiberglass Endless Pool.
