Empireonline.com is a movie-based website run by the best selling UK magazine, Empire. Along with the IMDb and Kids-in-mind.com, it is considered one of the most important cinema related websites on the internet due to its huge catalogue of film reviews and user interaction. The website's creators and users have embraced all aspects of film and its production from huge epics to homespun dramas. Originally designed as a counterpart to the monthly publication, it has since become so popular that readers have cancelled subscriptions and used the site solely instead. The website can be accessed
Features Aswell as its extensive database of film reviews and star ratings, Empire Online also has a variety of features: Interviews with everyone from Hollywood stars to rising independant directors, Top 10 Lists, Blogs by Empire staff, Competitions, Trailers, Annual Oscar Microsites and a variety of other film related pages. By far the most popular feature on the site is the Forums which have gained attention on account of its easy user interface, community feel and use of moderators.
Famous Empire Forum Threads The Empire Forum has been the host of many hot topics that have been featured in the magazine and on other websites. The most famous is a thread called "My name is Jamdodge and I'm going to make the goriest movie ever" which got a massive cult following due to the original poster admitting to have made it all up after a two year, 900 post buildup. The thread starter had told the public he had gotten a distributor for the film, Cillian Murphy and Liam Neeson were in it and there were gallons of fake blood being used each day. In the sacandalous last week of posting, he was exposed as a 14 year old boy who had been lying to the world. Another considerable post concerned a poster named "Piles" telling his 100 favourite films, instead of the usual monotonous lists, he used a stylised, visually arresting top 100 and boosted a sort of "novelle vague" of review and list writing not only on the site but on the cinema related internet.
Opinion The website has become well known for letting opinion come number one, Helen O'Hara - a primary worker for the magazine - has written passionate blogs on her ideals about censorship, cinemagoing and the importance of awards. Aswell as the employees who run the site, many users set up original threads that allow opinion to rule out - the most famous being one called "Your Unpopular Opinion" which allows all users to admit to their disagreement with critics, fans, Empire and other users. This creates a welcoming atmopshere for one of the most sought-after movie websites in recent memory.
