Elmdale Public School

Elmdale Public School is a public elementary school in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, offering both regular English education and French immersion. It also has good running coaches and has had great results in cross-country.
Elmdale was built in 1928 to serve what were then Ottawa's western suburbs, though it is now in the city core. The school currently has approximately 500 students from junior kindergarten to grade six, and feeds its students to Fisher Park Public School for grades seven and eight.
History
In 1919 the school board purchased 19 lots which are where Elmdale now stands. The school was built in 1928 and officially opened by Governor General Lord Willingdon in 1929. Part of the construction used a special type of glass which would allow "health-giving ultraviolet rays" on the pupils. The original structure had eight classrooms. An addition was made in 1948 which added a gymnasium and another eight classrooms. The addition was opened by Ontario education minister Dana Porter.
