Elizabeth Kopel

Elizabeth Kopel is a policy researcher from Papua New Guinea. She specialises in researching the informal economy, women’s economic empowerment, social development and urban settlements and housing.
Biography
Kopel is from the Western Highlands Province. She completed a bachelor's degree in social work at the University of Papua New Guinea in 1990, followed by a master's degree in social work at the University of Western Australia in 1992. She later completed a master's degree in project management at the University of Northumbria, UK and a PhD in social policy at the University of York, UK. She has lectured on social policy and social development at the University of Papua New Guinea and the University of Manchester, UK. She co-shares leadership of the Gender Research Program. Kopel is on the board of directors for the Women's Micro Bank, a group working to microfinance to provide opportunities for women in Papua New Guinea.
