Elizabeth Guzman

Elizabeth Guzman is a Democratic politician running in Virginia's 31st House of Delegates district election, 2017, which is expected to be a competitive election. She immigrated to America from Peru as a single mother, where she obtained degrees in office administration and management, public safety, public administration, and social work. She started a career working for the City of Alexandria as a public administrator and social worker. She is running on the issues of expanding Medicaid, reducing class sizes, ending stringent Standards of Learning requirements, and increasing funding for early childhood education programs like Head Start. Guzman also favors raising the minimum wage and ending gerrymandering. She cites steady, insulting profiling of her and her family by Prince William County officials and residents as a reason why she decided to run. She lives in Dale City. and American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees Local 3001, which endorsed her on 17 February. She is often considered a progressive-leaning candidate, and she is a member of the diversity-focused Prince William Progress Coalition.
