Elisa Mile

Elisa Mile was a South Sudanese traditional leader who served as a chief in Udabi Payam, Morobo County, Central Equatoria State. He was known for his role in community leadership and local administration within the county. Mile was killed in an armed attack at his home in October 2023.
Killing
On 23 October 2023, Elisa Mile was shot and killed by unidentified armed men wearing military uniforms at his residence in Ukalawa village, located in Udabi Payam of Morobo County.
According to reports, the attackers also abducted two women and took Mile’s son and another elderly man. The two men were reportedly detained for several days before being released.
The killing was condemned by Uria Guya Emmanuel, a Member of the Central Equatoria State Legislative Assembly representing Morobo County. He called for an investigation and urged authorities to bring the perpetrators to justice.<ref name="RadioTamazuj" />
Context
Morobo County is located in Central Equatoria State near the borders with Uganda and the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Despite the 2018 peace agreement in South Sudan, parts of the region have remained unstable due to the presence of various armed groups. Reports of similar violent incidents around the time of Mile’s killing, including the alleged deaths of motorcycle riders in Godo village, reflect ongoing insecurity in the area.<ref name"GroundNews" /><ref name"EyeRadio" />
