EJ DiMera and Nicole Walker

EJ DiMera and Nicole Walker DiMera (also known by the portmanteau Ejole also known as Ecole for EJ and Nicole) are fictional characters and a pairing from the American soap opera Days of our Lives. Since the characters introduction in February 1998, the role of Nicole Walker has been portrayed by actress Arianne Zucker. James Scott has portrayed the role of EJ since the character's introduction on May 30, 2006. EJ, is the son of long-time villan Stefano DiMera and comes from the powerful DiMera family. While Nicole a former waitress turned model is the daughter of Fay Walker and Paul Mendez, and has often had ties with many of the show's main families, including marriages to men in both the Horton and Kiriakis families.
Since the couples inception in 2008, their union has often revolved around blackmail, lies, dishonesty, and deceit. With their first union ending when EJ learns that Nicole had lost their baby and had instead switched her with his child with Sami. And with their second marriage ending as a result of EJ having an affair with Nicole's sister, Taylor and being responsible for the death of her mother. The coupling has gained a strong following on many forums and message boards, across the internet.
Storyline
2008
Upon Nicole's arrival back in Salem in April 2008, Nicole still married to Victor Kiriakis, hires EJ DiMera to be her divorce attorney, which did not sit well with her former rival Sami Brady. E.J. used Nicole to make Sami jealous, and even paid Nicole to be around Sami at opportune times. Sami and E.J.'s relationship continued to sour. On the night that Sami tells E.J. to move on with his life, he and Nicole end up sleeping together during the blackout, in which EJ calls out Sami's name while making love to Nicole.
With Trent Robbins arrival in town in the summer of 2008, he immediately begins threatening Nicole. Viewers soon learned that Nicole had married Trent while in college. Trent was abusive towards Nicole, and she eventually packed her things and left him. However, she never filed for divorce, so technically, she was still married to Trent. If that news were discovered, Nicole would lose her huge divorce settlement from Victor. So, in exchange for his silence, Nicole did whatever Trent told her to do. Nicole told E.J. that their relationship needed to remain professional. Nicole spied on Max Brady for Trent. Eventually, Nicole asked E.J. for his help in dealing with Trent. Around the same time in September 2008 Trent is murdered and Nicole is one of the main suspects in his death. However it is eventually revealed to be Nick Fallon.
In late September, Nicole discovers that she is pregnant with EJ's baby, despite being told it would be difficult for her to conceive. While Nicole is excited as she see's this as her one chance at motherhood, she is at first afraid to tell EJ the news for fear of EJ's reaction.
However once she tells him about the baby he asks her to move into the DiMera mansion, after she has a paternity test. Although angry Nicole aagrees and the two eventually go and get the test done, which reveals that EJ is the father. The two eventually start to bond over their child and began planning their future together.
On November 24, 2008 while EJ is away on a business trip with Stefano, Nicole begins to spot and fears something is wrong witht the baby. With the assistance of Nicole's ex Brady Black, Nicole is rushed to the nearest hospital where she went into premature labor and delivered a baby girl, but sadly the baby did not survive. Grief-stricken over the loss of their daughter Nicole doesn't know how to tell EJ that she has lost the baby and instead continues to pretend as though she is pregnant.
As Nicole continues to fake her pregnancy she eventually learns from her best-friend Chloe Lane that EJ's ex-wife Sami is pregnant with his second child, jealous of the fact that Sami is pregnant with EJ's baby she sets a plan in motion to take Sami's baby. With the assistance of Dr. Richard Baker, who treated her when she went into labor, she gets him to get her a black market baby from a girl named Mia McCormick and when the baby is born switches it with Sami's.
2009
After stealing Sami's baby, she has a fake "labor" and tells E.J. that Sami's baby was hers. She names the baby Sydney. She often tells Sydney that "she is not Sami's baby... that she is E.J.'s and hers." Mia returns to Salem from Japan and heads to the DiMera mansion. She asks to see Nicole, but she speaks to Tony instead. Mia accidentally reveals that Sydney is "her daughter." Tony then confronts Nicole about it, but he is killed before he could tell EJ that Sydney is not his daughter. After and interruption by Sami on their wedding day, EJ and Nicole marry on April 21, 2009.
After lying to everyone for months, Nicole finds out that Sami's "baby" Grace is very sick. Grace later dies. Nicole and Sami fight often because Nicole is very protective over Sydney, and she doesn't allow Sami, Sydney's real mother, to even touch her. Nicole often tells Sami that "she is Sydney's mother and Sami is not." Sami and E.J. become a little suspicious over Nicole's odd behavior, but decide to ignore it.
Nicole spends much of 2009 trying to cover-up the fact that Sydney is actually Sami's daughter and not hers. However EJ eventually becomes suspcious of Nicole's behavior and hires a man to follow Nicole and Syndey around town, unaware that Rafe Hernadez is doing the same. One day while Nicole is with Brady, EJ and Rafe both overhear that Nicole has "lost" a baby. When she returns home, EJ confronts her and eventually gets her to reveal that their daughter died. An angry EJ then kicks both Nicole and Sydney out of the mansion unaware that Sydney is his biological daughter.
Nicole who has befriended Sami following the death of Nicole's intended adoptive daughter Grace, goes to Sami and asks her for help in leaving town with Sydney. Rafe who is still suspcious of Nicole later runs a DNA test and discovers that Sydney is actually Sami's daughter. Sami and EJ both confront Nicole with the truth and force her to admit that Sydney is their biological daughter.
Once the baby-switch is revealed, Nicole is arrested for stealing Sydney. However she eventually gets Brady to pay her bail and she then kidnaps Sydney and flees to Cleveland. When she plans on returning Sydney back to Sami and EJ, Sydney is kidnapped from her but she doesn't remember who took her, she is eventually sentenced to 20 years in prison.
2010
When Nicole finally remembers that Anna DiMera is the one who took Sydney from her, she blackmails her into helping Nicole get released from prison. Upon her return back to Salem she and EJ get a divorce and she immediately gets into a fight with Sami. Nicole who has is know pursuing her ex, Brady get Dr. Baker to frame his current girlfriend, Arianna Hernadez for the muggings of the men in Salem. Believing Arianna to be innocent and Nicole to be guilty, EJ becomes her lawyer and sets out to prove Nicole is responsible.
Afraid of possibly being framed by the DiMera's, Nicole gets nervous and broke into the DiMera Mansion to find some dirt on E.J. -- and her plan worked. She discovered that Anna had simply been an accomplice in Sydney's kidnapping and that E.J. had been the mastermind. She quickly used the information against E.J. to get him to back off. But the only thing Nicole didn't count on was that Rafe was investigating both her and E.J. and was close to discovering the truth about them both.
Rafe seduced Nicole in order to gain access to her apartment. He found the CD recording of E.J.'s confession. Rafe granted Nicole immunity and FBI protection in exchange for her authenticating the recording. When E.J. found out that Rafe had gotten the proof from Nicole, he froze her bank account and threatened to kill her. Broke and scared for her life, she moved in with Daniel and Chloe.
Rafe confronted E.J. with the tape on Sami and E.J.'s wedding day. E.J. was heartbroken when Sami left him and took the kids with her. Later that night, Kate called Sami and told her that E.J. might be planning on kidnapping the kids. Sami rushed over the to DiMera mansion and found a passed out E.J. with a gun next to him. Seeing the opportunity, she picked up the gun and shot E.J. in the head. The next morning, people immediately starting buzzing about who could have shot E.J.
Nicole was immediately cleared as a suspect, but she was still curious as to who shot E.J. Needing a safer place to stay, Nicole moved in with Brady. The two began to get closer. Nicole even helped Brady cover up his crime- burying Vivian alive in a sarcophagus.
While living there, Brady received the news that his ex-fiance, Arianna, had been killed and Brady was the still the beneficiary of her belongings. Included in them was a taped of Sami admitting that she was the one who shot E.J., when Nicole found the tape she immediately went to blackmail Sami into letting Nicole spend time with Sydney.
Rafe urged Sami to agree to the deal at first, in order to give him time to get the tape from Nicole. Rafe tried infecting Nicole's computer with a virus and stealing the video. When Nicole found out, she went straight to E.J. and offered him the same deal- the tape of Sami's confession in exchange for time with Sydney. E.J. took the deal, but wanted more.
Wanting to punish both Nicole and Sami for their lies and betrayal against them, EJ ordered that Nicole had to break up with EJ and move into the DiMera mansion with him if she wanted to be close to Sydney. Hoping to make Sami mad with the knowledge that Nicole would be around Syndey, Nicole agreed even though she was heartbroken about it, however she and Brady still continued to see each other on the side. Not long after she moved in, E.J. asked Nicole to marry him in hopes of her being a step-mother to both Johnny and Sydney.
2011-present
After Johnny is diagnosed with cancer, EJ and Nicole begin to grow closer especially as he sees how she is so motherly to not only Sydney but to Johnny as well. A few weeks before their wedding day, Nicole's sister, Taylor, showed up at the DiMera mansion and asked Nicole for a place to stay. Nicole was reluctant at first, due to their rough history together, but eventually Nicole agreed to let Taylor move in. She was excited to learn more about her sister.
Around the same time, Taylor had a chance meeting with E.J. on the pier. The two fell in love at first sight, despite not knowing who the other was. It wasn't until the day of Nicole and E.J.'s wedding that Taylor realized that she was in love with her sister's husband. After the wedding, E.J. and Taylor immediately started a relationship.
One day, Nicole caught them kissing in the living room. She was heartbroken, but determined to make both of them pay. She didn't have to wait long as a few days later the truth about E.J. and Stefano's involvement in Fay's death came out. Eventually the two seperate and Taylor leaves E.J. Nicole and Taylor worked, hesitantly, on rebuilding their relationship. They bonded over their distrust of E.J. and their desire to keep Brady safe. (Who had gotten away with assaulting E.J. and not getting caught.)
Eventually Nicole and Brady get back together and EJ comes to the realization that he has feelings for Nicole. In late September, Nicole is held hostage at knife-point by the man who has been attacking women on the pier. With EJ there to keep her calm Nicole is fearful for her life. After the whole ordeal is over Nicole and EJ continue to bond. Nicole eventually decides to break it off with Brady and decides that she doesn't want to be in a relationship with any man right now.
EJ who has just announced that he is running for mayor of Salem, asks Nicole to be his campaign manager which she intially declines, but after much convincing she agrees to on one condition, they must keep their relationships strikly professional. As the two continue to bond and be flirtatious. On November 8, a blizzard hits Salem and EJ and Nicole end up trapped in the DiMera mansion, the two eventually give in and make love. The next morning EJ declares that they belong together and that he wants to be with Nicole again, although Nicole wants to be aa family with EJ again she can't as is afraid of being hurt again, and decides she just can't take the risk and leaves him. The following day on November 10, a devastated Nicole tells and equally devastated EJ that she has filed for divorce and that she wants to end their marriage despite objections from EJ.
Impact
The couple has often been contrasted with the pairing of EJ DiMera and Samantha Brady, with many fans unsure of which women he truly loves.
