Edward Legard

Edward Thomas Legard (born 9 November 1966) is a British Conservative politician, currently Prospective Parliamentary Candidate for Darlington and Vice Chairman of the Policy and Resources committee, Ryedale Council.
Before Politics
Legard was born in Scarborough, North Yorkshire and brought up in Ripon. He spent most of his childhood in the area.
He studied English Lit. at the University of St Andrews, graduating with MA.
Following university he then spent five and a half years serving in the Light Dragoons, a reconnaissance regiment with strong recruiting ties to the North East.
After serving in the Armed forces, Legard went onto Law school from which he joined the bar in 1996 at York Chambers. He practises in the north-east working out of the York and Newcastle offices and specialises in employment law where he represents, amongst others, trade unions.
Politics
Edward campaigned on issues both local and national. Legard has been a Ryedale District Councillor for the past 5 years. Notably, he has fought and won two local elections, increasing his majority threefold in May last year. He is presently Vice-Chairman of the Council’s Policy committee.
Amongst many other things, he has campaigned for the development of job creation initiatives such as a Technology Park, a project which should see the creation of upto 800 jobs in the local area.
As a Ryedale councillor Edward has particular responsibility for budget control. Edward says that he believes in a "fair and transparent tax system."
