Edvarda Aslaksen Braanaas

Edvarda Aslaksen Braanaas (born 11 December 1963) is a Norwegian artist]] and figurative painter.

Life and work

Edvarda Aslaksen Braanaas started her artistic training in Italy and then returned to Norway in 1986, where she attended Oslo National Academy of the Arts, followed by studies in art-history at University of Oslo.

She works in paint and printmaking with a foundation of drawing to compile sources from fine arts and popular culture, including Renaissance imagery, fashion photography and childhood memories. Her intent is express sensuality and beauty through depictions of individuals in various settings, which are constructed with new juxtapositions of recognisable iconography. Artistic influences are Paula Rego, Paul Delvaux and Balthus.

In March 2008 at Maddox Arts in the West End of London she took part in an international group show, curated by James Putnam and titled Viva Lolita, after the book Lolita by Vladimir Nabokov.

She lives and works in Oslo, Norway.
