Eddie Connor is an American author, professor, public speaker, minister, and radio/TV correspondent.
Early life
Connor was born in Detroit, Michigan and grew up in Kingston, Jamaica. As a product of a divorced family, he was raised by his mother. During his teenage years, Connor was diagnosed with stage four cancer, and underwent chemotherapy and radiation.
Career
Since 2012, Connor has been a graduate education professor at Marygrove College. He speaks at churches, community centers, conferences, and colleges. With clergy people, Connor publicly speaks against crime in communities. Connor is a bestselling author of 8 books and founder of the mentoring program Boys 2 Books which is geared toward instructing young males via literacy, leadership, and life skills enrichment.
In 2012, as an aide to former U.S. Congressman Hansen Clarke, Connor’s efforts assisted in the development of H.Res.721 which became the impetus for President Barack Obama’s, My Brother's Keeper initiative.
In 2016, he was a recipient of . Before Obama left office in January of 2017 and named to Michigan Chronicle’s Top 40 under 40.
