Ecumensus Project

Ecumensus Project is a community-driven, spiritual feature film project led by Masala Filmworks (Austin, TX) and planned for release in November 2012. The working title of the movie is "After 2012" and it is adapted from the novel "Ecumensus, The Next Vision". This community and the filmmakers recognize that there is an alternative view of the future - one not based on fear, failure and destruction but one based on love, enlightenment and elevation.
Ecumensus - The Next Vision is a novel by Clifford Lane Mark first published in 2008 and re-published in 2009, it won designation as Spiritual Fiction Book of the Year for 2008 and was reviewed in Midwest Reviews as “A must for any spiritual thinker”. The novel posits that the survival of humankind is predicated on ridding ourselves of the divisions, categories and fragments which have historically partitioned us and results in a vertical hierarchy. In its place, the author suggests the need to develop holistic views that will focus all future efforts of the race on thriving through understanding, love, and cooperation and the development of a horizontal, non-hierarchical plain.
When the world's most recognized spiritual master left this earth almost 2,000 years ago, he promised to remain until the end of the age; an age, by most accounts, that will end during the second decade of this century (AD 2010-2019). Since Jesus' promise, the world's spiritual landscape has become overwhelmed with warring dogmas and conflicting belief systems that compete with each other for an imagined spiritual supremacy. In the novel Ecumensus, this emerging age is seen as increasingly concerned with vision, imagination, and unfettered faith. Clifford Lane Mark weaves together a captivating tale of the sages, seekers, and enlightened ones who gather together in 2010 to uncover and envision the understandings that will propel all seekers forward with creative intent and begin to create a future that is once again filled with hope. Their quest for the truth eventually leads to new and unified understandings and reveals the ultimate collective destiny of the human race.
Clifford Lane Mark is a first-time novelist in his 50’s, Mark’s Ecumensus has won awards and his work has been dubbed “Brilliant” and “Possessed of a supernatural energy of truth.” So convinced is he that he only ‘held the pencil’ on this inspired work of fiction, it was almost published anonymously. “All works like this are ultimately written by the community,” Mark has often said. He is closely involved in the Ecumensus Project and the After 2012 movie development process.
