The Economic Development Coalition of Southwest Indiana (EDC) is a regional economic development organization for Gibson, Posey, Vanderburgh, and Warrick counties in Southwest, Indiana. The EDC works with local county economic development organization partners to attract new businesses and skilled workers to the Southwest, Indiana area. History and Regional Impact The EDC of Southwest Indiana was created in 2006 as a partnership between public, private, and not-for-profit organizations located in Southwest, Indiana. The EDC helped attract $4 billion worth of business investments to the counties represented and add 6,500 new jobs in the region since then by working with Haier America, Berry Plastics, Mead Johnson, Toyota Boshoku, Midwest Fertilizer Corporation and AT&T. in 2013 concerning the Olmsted Dam. Region Cities Initiative of Indiana The Regional Cities Initiative is a state initiative meant to attract new talent to the state of Indiana and retain skilled workers in the local communities through employment projects. The Regional Cities Initiative was established in 2015 by the Indiana Legislature and led by the Governor of Indiana, Mike Pence who supports the Indiana Economic Development Corporation (IEDC). As of 15 December 2015, three locations of Indiana, represented by their respective Economic Coalitions, were each awarded $42 million for development plans each submitted to the State of Indiana. The Economic Development Coalition of Southwest Indiana presented a plan titled, "Indiana's Great Southwest". In the plan, 19 projects were presented that focus on using the new Indiana University academic medical education and research center to improving the community along with other strategies.
