East Pennine Orienteering Club

East Pennine Orienteering Club (EPOC) [(http://www.eastpennineoc.org.uk)] is an orienteering club which draws its membership from the metropolitain boroughs of Calderdale, Kirklees and Wakefield in West Yorkshire, Great Britain. It is affiliated to the national governing body British Orienteering [(http://www.britishorienteering.org.uk)] and the regional association Yorkshire and Humberside Orienteering Assocaiation [(http://www.yhoa.org.uk)]. The club organises events throughout the year using woodland and moorland areas, and members compete in other events all over the UK and abroad. Training runs are held on Monday evenings in the Halifax area. The retired members of the club (The Wrinklies group) have a training run or walk at a different venue every Wednesday morning.
History
The club was founded in early 1977 by a small group of enthusiasts who were members of clubs further afield. The first major event was held at Elland Park Woods in 1977.
Permanent Courses
East Pennine Orienteering Club has mapped some small areas for use as Permanent Courses, open to the general public. You can find out where to get maps for these courses on the club website. The Permanent Courses are at Oakwell Hall, Hardcastle hiCrags, Wilton Park, Beaumont Park, Greenhead Park, Jerusalem Farm nr. Luddenden, Ogden Water, [Shbden Park, Nostell Priory and Newmillerdam.
