/e/ Mobile Operating System
/e/ is a free and open-source operating system and associated web services for smartphones on the Android mobile platform. It is developed on a fork of LineageOS. The Operating System is developed by the e.foundation founded by Gaël Duval. /e/, formerly called eelo, aims to offer a ready-to-use de-googled mobile OS and related online services usable by anyone. The /e/ development team aims to progressively add more features to improve the user's data privacy.
Background
In 2017 Gaël Duval, through a series of articles titled “Leaving Apple & Google: my /e/ odyssey” (one, two, three) proposed the concept of an Operating System without user data spying applications or services. This was followed by a Kickstarter crowdfunding campaign. The OS was initially named eelo. The name was subsequently changed to /e/ due to copyright issues.
Development
The first Minimum Viable Product (MVP) based on Lineage OS 14.1 was released on 12 September 2018 with the source code available on Gitlab.
The second MVP based on Lineage OS 15.1 was released on November 22, 2018.

At present /e/ development builds cover 49 devices and an active user base of about one thousand users.
To interact with its users and provide software issue support, the /e/ team uses Telegram channels and a web based community forum .
