Dylan Lazerow

Born on in Tacoma, WA in 1988, Dylan Lazerow has risen to prominence as a community organizer, most notably for the cause of racial justice and youth employment. His first published documentary was a full length film entitled Hoodwinked: Race and Racism at Brookline High School. He later went on to study in Ann Arbor at the University of MIchigan, where he joined a chapter of Students for a Democratic Society and founded the Free Thinkers Study Group. He then joined an outgrowth of Bob Moses Algebra Project entitled The Young People's Project, where he worked toward on the civil rights issue of our time, teaching math literacy to black middle and high school students. After taking a post at the national headquarters for YPP, he became increasingly involved in youth led policy change and youth employment in particular as a measure to fight the mass incarceration system that had taken hold of the US and had helped shape what is known as the school to prison pipeline. He continued working to support youth led statewide organizing and helped win over 50 million dollars in youth jobs funding before transitioning to National Field Organizer for an effort now known as Democracy Spring. After successfully helping lead the largest US civil disobedience incident this century, he began building the Youth Leadership Lab, a partnership of The Relational Center and Gestalt International Study Center.
