Drowning Shakespeare

Drowning Shakespeare is a five-piece melodic hardcore band from Sydney, Nova Scotia, formed in 2004. They are currently signed to a Govan, Saskatchewan based independent label, Torque Records, who have recently signed a worldwide distribution deal with Victory Records.

History
Drowning Shakespeare was formed during the winter of 2004 by drummer/vocalist Christopher Poirrier, guitarist Evan Morrison, bassist Ryan Tubrett, vocalist Adam White and guitarist Ian MacDonald. They recorded their first EP That Day Doesn't Seem So Far Away Now in their basement, and released it independently. Soon thereafter, Drowning Shakespeare discovered the sound that they wanted to pursue and as a result vocalist Adam White left the band. Bob Popwell soon joined the band taking over the screaming vocal duties, and is the current vocalist for the band.

During the winter of 2005/2006 Drowning Shakespeare recorded their self-titled EP, which includes fan favorites Trampolines and Cheap Motels Don't Bother Me In The Least. Following the recording of this disc, they encountered another line-up change. Guitarist Ian MacDonald left the band and Andrew O'Rourke took his place. Drowning Shakespeare then embarked on a tour, that took them as far as mid-Ontario, before heading back to Cape Breton, Nova Scotia to write and record their first full length album entitled Show Some Ambition, Kid. Prior to the recording of the album, Andrew O'Rourke left the band in April 2007. Jonathan Wells replaced him, and is in the current line-up

Since their first show at the Steelworker’s Hall in Sydney, Nova Scotia in 2004, they have played numerous shows across Nova Scotia. They have even played shows in Prince Edward Island, New Brunswick, Quebec and Ontario. Recently, Drowning Shakespeare have signed to Torque Records, an indie label from Saskatchewan, which is one of the fastest growing independent labels in Canada right now. They sent a copy of their full length album and wrote the owner, Kevin Gales, an e-mail. They received a phone call a week later, and within a few weeks, they were signed.
They are currently working on their new album and will be hitting the studio in October. Drowning Shakespeare also plan to shoot and release a video for a single yet to be named.
