Sabaothic Cherubim

Sabaothic Cherubim is a death metal/grindcore band from Baltimore, Maryland, that was formed in 1990. The band was formed in the town of Perry Hall (in Baltimore County, Maryland) by singer/guitarist Andrew Phillips and was part of the underground music sector since the band's creation. Phillips was joined by guitarist Shane Ball soon after the band's creation, and they began writing material for their debut album. The band’s early influences came from bands like Death, Morgoth, Vengeance Rising, Pestilence, Possessed, Mortification, Napalm Death, Royal Anguish and Living Sacrifice. Though featured on several underground compilations, Sabaothic Cherubim never really broke through into the mainstream sector, yet album sales reached Denmark, UK, Panama and all across the United States.
History
1990-1994
Sabaothic Cherubim was formed in Baltimore, Maryland, by Phillips and guitarist Ball. They released seven albums between 1990 and 1994 on independent record label AP Records; their first LP album was titled Decomposed Remains. Their earlier recordings were known for their raw sound and heavily distorted guitar riffs, as well as vocals that sounded a bit more like Black Metal. Besides Phillips and Ball, the band consisted of drummer Bobby Kortez and played without a bassist; the reason for this was due to the deep distorted guitars that would drown out the bass. Sabaothic Cherubim was one of the only Death Metal bands to have a lineup excluding a bassist. In 1994 Phillips left the band, which eventually broke up.
2005 - Present
In 2005, singer/guitarist, Andrew Phillips, and original guitarist, Shane Ball, reunited and brought the band back to life. Upon their reforming, they released the 2006 EP album Where The Blood Flows, and the 2007 LP album Beyond The Baphomet on AP Records. The reformed Sabaothic Cherubim would unveil a few changes from the old Sabaothic Cherubim; the songwriting would contain more sections and breaks, the vocals would take a deeper and more harsh guttural sound, the guitars would be more technical with more changes, and the drums would incorporate high BPM blast beats with intense double bass. A video for the song Decomposed Remains (off the Beyond The Baphomet album) was released in 2007, and picked up by MTV Headbangers Ball online; the band's radical logo design was also used by Headbangers Ball for their Indecipherable Logo of the Day contest on November 02, 2007. In 2008, guitarist Shane decided to leave the band and was replaced by death metal guitarist, Raymond Kratochvil. That same year, the band would add Alex Paul, their first bassist, to their permanent lineup. After Raymond and Alex's arrival, the band released a video for The Passing, and in 2009 released the video for Agonizing Screams of The Undead; both songs are from the Beyond The Baphomet album. In 2009 Sabaothic Cherubim left long time label, AP Records, and signed with independent record label Guttural Planet; the music video for Agonizing Screams of The Undead was the first release with Guttural Planet Records. They are currently working on their next full length album, Liberation of the Tsalmaveth Dwellers, which is scheduled for 2010 release.
