Donalism

Donalism is a branch or expression of Modernism, prevalent in late 20th Century Ireland. While Modernism describes a broad body of theological views regarded as heretical by the Catholic Church, including the belief that the Church and Catholic dogma are mere human institutions and as such their nature may radically change over time, donalism is characterised by specific unusual liturgical practices. Donalist priests refuse to touch the Sacred Host when showing it to the congregation at Mass, instead keeping it on the paten. Outside of the liturgy, Donalist bishops have adopted a peculiar practice of wearing a pectoral cross with a cord instead of a chain. They often reject the Church’s teaching on the importance of Catholic education, supporting a more secular and integrated approach.
