Dolebludger

A dolebludger is a widely used Australian colloquialism describing a lazy unemployed person, usually male.

Origins
The ‘Dole’ is a slang term used by Australia, Ireland, England and America to describe welfare payments. A ‘Bludger’ is a lazy person in Australian Slang term used by most of Australian particularly in rural Australia. The first recorded use of Dolebludger was in North Queensland. It is also used in the movie, The Wog Boy to describe Nick Giannopoulos character Steve Karamitsis

Typical View of Dolebludger
A typical view of an Australian Dolebludger is a lazy, no good alcoholic who wastes the whole day doing nothing. This had lead to Dolebludger becoming a mild insult more of a jest then properly used to insult somebody. e.g. "Sam is such a dolebludger, he should get a job." Not a small amount of modern Australian teenagers see anything wrong with becoming a Dolebludger though.

Uses in Modern Media
Dolebludger is a well-known Australian colloquialism and as such is in many Australian movies such as and The Wog Boy. It is also used in many stereotypes of Australia by foreign nations. It is also used in news programs such as Sky News Australia and WIN News.
