Dogopoly

With the popularity of Monopoly, one variation created in 1977 took the game's best features, removed the game's least liked features, and added additional useful features into a dog-themed game called Dogopoly. In additional to the usual Monopoly path around the board, two tracks were added within the center area to offer alternative routes. Also, several rules were changed to allow for much quicker game-play, with games typically lasting about two (2) hours rather than Monopoly's often-stalemated games.

A computerized version (DOS-based) was created in 1990 but had limited release.

In 2002, a high-quality 25th anniversary collector's edition was released by Spahits Games and the New-York Historical Society included a copy in their permanent exhibit originally called "Petropolis".

An early version is rumored to have included real dogs and dog houses carved from the teeth of celebrities.

Instructions

Players take on the role of dogs walking on the sidewalk around the neighborhood and encounter things in a typical dog’s life, including Trees, Telephone Poles, Fire Hydrants, and the Park. While trotting around, stop Home to get some bones, but don’t get caught by the dog catcher or you’ll end up in the Pound! And don't get hurt while sniffing around the neighborhood or you'll have to go to the Vet.

While wandering, detour into one of the alleys then try taking one of the Cats Crossing paths to the other alley. This allows you to run around the neighborhood even quicker, or to bypass other dogs’ territories.

In this game, when you buy a territory you’ll want to build a doghouse right away to start renting it at the first opportunity. Build even more doghouses when you own more than one territory with the same color.

The currency is bones. Use bones to buy all the territories and own the neighborhood.

Three suggested versions of play are included in the rules for even quicker games.
The standard rules offer quick game play. For even quicker game play, there are several Quick Play variations.

The “High Steaks” of the standard game play means that things can happen fast, and can keep you entertained for several hours (not days). If you make the right moves and get lucky, you'll reap the rewards very quickly. If you make the wrong moves, expect your opponents to eat you up.
The “Bones” of the Quick Play game means that things can happen even faster. These games may finish in about an hour. With the right strategy, you can bury any bad luck thrown your way and become top dog.The game has three tracks, two paths, and a slide:

#The Outer Track offers you the main route around the game, where you can snatch territories, hang out in the park, or growl as the dog catcher drags you to the Pound.
#The Inner Tracks offer you shortcuts through the game, connecting different areas of the Outer Track. In here are many challenges and rewards to sniff out.
#Within the Inner Tracks are two Cats Crossings. These shortcuts offer muddy paths between the tracks.
#The slide leads from the Outer Track through both Inner Tracks, and lands in the Pound. Stay for a while, pay 100 bones to get out, or use your Get Out of the Pound FREE card.
