Early Radio Career
Richard J. Zmijewski left for New Mexico in September 1968 on a full basketball scholarship. The first week at the university he suffered a serious permanent injury accident which left him without a scholarship.
He enrolled in broadcast school in Boston the fall of 1969, and left in February 1970 and had his first job in radio February 18th, 1970 at WKJK, in Hickory, North Carolina. He next worked for George Beasley Broadcasting in Lenoir NC, Augusta, GA and Spartanburg, SC.
WBLF and WLYC
In September 1992 he went to Pennsylvania. He and his wife Dee bought WBLF, State College Radio, and in July 1997 bought WLYC in Williamsport.
After 8 years in Pennsylvania and the sale of the radio stations they returned to New York State, where the couple worked and produced for several radio and television stations. In north Buffalo they did the morning show at WJJL until May 2007, when Dee was stricken with terminal cancer, to which she succumbed in October of that year.
