DJ Matter is a drum and bass DJ from Kaliningrad, Russia. He has worked with many DJs from around the world and has played in numerous clubs across Eastern Europe. Matter is currently keeping a low radar, rumor has it that he is working on a big project to be unveiled soon.
Biography Matter first came onto the scene in 2003 as a permanent resident for Kaliningrad's local pirate radio station (now a promo group) called Estation. He was the co-creator of all projects and was involved in the ES' "Power Source" compilation.
In addition to his complete dominance of Kaliningrad's clubs and venues, DJ Matter has frequently co-headlined the infamous St. Petersburg cult club Tunnel. Matter keeps up contacts with producers, DJs, and record labels worldwide, and is the foremost representative of the drum and bass scene in western Russia. Matter has performed alongside popular names such as , Dieselboy, John B, Noisia, Distorted Minds, TeeBee, Black Sun Empire, N. Phect, Raiden, Mutated Forms, Subwave, , Sunchase, and many others.
Style Unlike many DJs in the modern break beat genres, Matter does not like to be associated with just one particular style, although he had originally been known as a nu-skool jump-up DJ. Now he prefers the wobble-oriented minimalistic Drum & bass style with industrial flavor. Because of his ability to adapt and stretch his music, DJ Matter attracts a wide range of listeners and is well known for his excellent DJ performances. He always strives to make his sets as creative and unexpected for audiences as possible.
NSB Radio In the later part of 2006, DJ Matter and fellow Breakbeat / Drum and Bass DJ/producer DJ Mars teamed up to become the first Russian DJs on the largest Breaks internet radio station, NSB radio. Although the site is hosted and ran in the United Kingdom, DJ Mars and DJ Matter poured their souls into running their show, The Broken Communistic Beats. They were the first DJs ever to break the old mold and mix Breaks and Drum and Bass together to design their own style. In the spring of 2008 however, DJ Matter and DJ Mars announced a temporary vacation from the show, with the scheduled return in May.
