Milieu Control (2010)
'Milieu Control' is Distaudio's first full-length studio album, released on 20 November 2010. All songs on the album were written and performed by Heath Friend as Distaudio.
The 'Milieu Control' sound comprises elements of glitch, industrial and post-punk infused with lyrics targeting societal apathy, destruction of culture and corporate corruption. Reviewed on The Dwarf website on 28 January 2011, the reviewer wrote "impressive for a debut is the pacing - the album never gets tied down for too long - each song is arranged to perfection and it moves along nicely, mixing down-tempo and high-energy high-anger songs to achieve a great mix". Reviewed on the Brutal Resonance website on 19 May 2011, the reviewer gave the album 9/10, commenting "Distaudio is effectively your middle finger ascending to Godhood and sticking itself in your face - with brutally heavy and mood-fitting guitar work".
The album was produced by Distaudio and Mark Dollin, and was mixed and mastered by Dollin at Stormformer Productions. Dollin says of the album:
"What is this music? One of the most appealing things about this album is that you can’t box it. You cannot say it’s genre this, or style that. Distaudio has his own thing going on. It’s a beautiful yet powerful synthesis many ideas and styles, all put to service to the theme and meaning behind each song. Higher and sophisticated thematic ideas dictate the shape of the music - nothing is arbitrary. It is also a giving album, as there hooks a plenty, choruses that get stuck in your head in a good way, and an infectious sense of groove and rhythm. It’s music for both the mind and the body."
The album contains the following tracks:
# Submit
# See Speak Scream
# Culture
# (Fwd:Re:) Not Yours
# The Other Side
# What's in it for me?
# Market (Reprise)
# Listening
# March of the Moral
No Control (2011)
The EP 'No Control' is a collection of remixes of songs from Distaudio’s debut album, Milieu Control. The idea for this album came about through conversations between Distaudio and other musicians around the world on the social networking platform Twitter:
"I finished the original album, Milieu Control, in November and I had the intention of doing a remix album, but I didn’t put much effort into that initial idea. Then I was approached by an industrial/trance artist from Florida called Cellmod; he asked whether he could remix one of the tracks and I said “sure, no worries!”. I also put out the call on Twitter to see if anyone else was interested and ended up with six more responses from other people - I got people from Scotland, people from Boston, a guy from the Central Coast, a guy from Armidale and also someone from Melbourne to remix the tracks. Some of them I’ve rarely had much to do with on Twitter, but they’ve donated their free time to do the remixes - each one of them was really individual."
The album was released on 18 April 2011 live on-air during 4zzz’s ‘Dark Essence’ music show.
All proceeds from sales of 'No Control' will be contributed to the Japanese Red Cross to assist the victims of the 2011 tsunami, which devastated Japan. Musicians who contributed remixes for this album are listed beside each track:
#Cellmod - See Speak Scream
#You Shriek - The Other Side of the Other Side
#t-zero - Culture
#Sefiros - Submit
#Cold Divide - Market (Reprise)
#Mr Mark Dollin - All that you're saying to me comes as no surprise
#Hexakai Dekagon - March of the Moral
The album was mastered by Dollin at Stormformer Productions.
