DiPSMUN, also known as DPS Bangalore South Model United Nations, is an academic stimulation of the international United Nations Organisation. Every participant is appointed as a representative of a country and must walk the talk in another’s shoes. With a MUN becoming a student’s widest platform to discuss, deliberate, negotiate and propose solutions to some of the world’s most pressing issues, it has now become an integral part of DPS Bangalore South. History DPS Bangalore South conducted its first MUN in 2013, an intra school event for the senior school with 2 committees - the Security Council and the General Assembly. After a more than encouraging response from the delegates, it hosted its first inter school MUN the very next year, DiPSMUN 2014 with few more new committees. DiPSMUN 2015 was organized with even more exciting committees, mind boggling agendas and some of the most experienced Executive Board members. Committees Security Council Like the UN as a whole, the Security Council was created following World War II to address the failings of another international organization, the League of Nations, in maintaining world peace. The Council also makes recommendations to the General Assembly on the appointment of a new Secretary-General and on the admission of new members to the UN. It is at the forefront of the 6 principal organs of the United Nations. The council where legally binding decisions are taken at a moment's notice. General Assembly The General Assembly allocates towards agendas relating to a range of social, humanitarian affairs and human rights issues that affect people all over the world - The Social, Cultural and Humanitarian Affairs Committee (SOCHUM). As a part of the SOCHUM you are expected to pick out the most grueling actions from across the globe and put forth innovative but realistic solutions. The agendas for the SOCHUM will not just leave you thinking for extraordinary solutions but it will also leave an impact on you as delegates towards the problems faced by you on a daily basis and will put you on a platform to make those decisions which could make all the difference. ECOSOC ECOSOC is one of the six main organs of the United Nations and deals with the world's economic, social and environmental challenges as well as for implementation of the internationally agreed development goals. It coordinates the UN's work on these topics and aims to enhance living conditions worldwide by issuing respective policy recommendations to member states. Due to its broad spectrum of responsibilities, about 70% of the UN's human and financial resources are managed by ECOSOC. To fulfill its tasks, ECOSOC employs a variety of special agencies, functional and regional commissions. INDIAN COUNCIL 1947 After a prolonged struggle for provision of rights for Indians, the Prime Minister Clement Attlee’s announcement to guarantee independence to India may seem to be an end to a tragic period of history. But it marks a new beginning. The formation of new nation(s) is just the start. This urge to form an independent country has only been strengthened post the San Francisco Conference 1945 and the beginning of decolonization across the globe. With self interests on the minds of all sections, a smooth and quick exit is possible only through sacrifice, compromise and making the best out of the available. Discussion of the Mountbatten Plan is the top priority of the privileged representatives of the nation - the members of the Indian National Congress, the Muslim League and the Maharajas just to name a few. Different ideals and variant policies but only one possible plan of action. Will the subcontinent remain one nation or will the diverse thoughts formulate new countries? What are the plans to be implemented? How will these plans take course? Set in 1947, this council will challenge you at every move. Bilderberg Conference The Bilderberg conference is an "off the record" meeting of transatlantic political and military leaders, business and banking executives, royalty and other power elites. It has been meeting annually since 1954, and takes place in a Hotel guarded heavily by Private Military. Arkansas Governor Bill Clinton, for example, attended the Conference in 1991. “There, David Rockefeller told (him) why the North American Free Trade Agreement….was a Bilderberg priority and that the group needed him to support it.” The next year, Clinton was elected president of the United States, and needless to say January 1994, NAFTA was enacted. INTERNATIONAL PRESS CORPS It is the International Press Corps that hold the critical role of obtaining, analyzing and informing their readership of major world events. The International Press Corps will have two competing media houses, which will provide the complete spectrum of political opinion as they rival each other and go head to head to get the best stories and ensure the best reporting.
