Dimri

Most of the Garhwali Brahmins claim that their ancestors came from the plains. However no one knows their ancestry before the coming to the hills... it therefore might mean that few men came from the plains, married to the local 'Khas' tribes and so all the Garhwali Brahmins are regarded as mixed-blooded "Khas Brahmins".
Caste names of Garhwali Brahmins are generally based essentially on their village names. For example, Nautiyals of Nauti village, Semwals of Sem, Bahugunas of Bughani, Maithanis of Maithana, Semaltis of Semalta, Gairolas of Gairoli, Chamolis of Chamoli, Thapliyal of Thapli, etc......
This is precisely the reason why some caste names are shared by both the Brahmins as well as the Jajmans(Rajpoots). Exaple of such surnames are Thapliyal (Brahmins in most parts of Garhwal but Jajmans in a few), Barthwal (Both Brahmins and Jajmans), Uniyal (Both Brahmins and Jajmans) and Pokhriyal(Jajmans in Tehri & Uttarkashi but Brahmins in Pauri Garhwal)
Brahmin clans such as Dimris is said to have came along with Shankaracharya from Karnatak, when he was establishing the Badrinath / Kedarnath temples. They were settled in the village of Dimmar.
