History
deVOL was founded in 1989 by Philip deVries and Paul O’Leary, both design graduates from Loughborough University. The name is an amalgamation of their initials of the founders. They began renovating antique furniture as well as making bespoke pieces. After 10 years, deVries left to set up a property company and O’Leary had purchased a shop in Quorn to showcase deVOL’s freestanding furniture.
deVOL appointed Robin McLellan Managing Director in 2012, 5 years after he had joined on as a placement student from Loughborugh University. The company opened a second showroom in the same district in early 2017. British designer Charlie Smallbone acted as deVOL’s expert witness and British designer Johnny Grey acted as expert witness for Neptune. The decision is regarded as an important ruling on the effect the Intellectual Property Act 2014 has had on UK unregistered design rights.
deVOL opened a showroom on 28 Bond St. in the Manhattan area of New York in april 2019.<ref name="The Leicester Mercury, May 2019" />
