Destiel is the fandom ship name of two Supernatural characters, Dean Winchester and the angel Castiel. History Supernatural is a television show, first premiering in 2005 and now airing on the CW. The ship "Destiel" (otherwise known as Dean/Castiel) is a slash pairing. Castiel, an angel of the Lord, first appeared in season 4 after dragging Dean Winchester (a hunter of the supernatural) from Hell. By doing so, he formed a deep bond with Dean, and the two remain close to this day. Many fans interpret this bond as a romantic and/or sexual relationship, writing fanfiction and drawing fanart for the couple. Reaction Though it is not canon yet on the show, some of the writers and actors involved have expressed open minds to the idea. Misha Collins, the actor who portrays Castiel, has said on the subject: "You know, we know what it is, what’s going on. We don’t talk about it. The actors don’t, Jensen and I don’t. But we’re all perfectly aware of how the relationship is, the writers are completely aware of how it’s being written. It may be unspoken but that doesn’t mean it’s not there or not true."
