Derek Thorn

Derek Thorn (born April 25, 1986 in Lakeport, California) is a NASCAR driver. He is part of the driver development program for Shawn Keep Inc. in the Camping World East Series and ASA Late Model Series. He races the #80 Racin’ For A Cure.com, Lucas Oil Ford Fusion.
Career
Thorn began racing at Lakeport Speedway at age 8. The Mini World of Outlaws gave him an understanding of dirt open wheel racing through his first years. He captured two track championships in 1999 and 2000 in the 125cc division. At 13 he made the jump to asphalt. Winning a street stock division championship in 02 at Lakeport, than made the jump to the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series Modified division winning the track championship at Shasta Raceway Park in 04.
In 2005 he ran a super late model in the North State Challenge Series capturing 3 wins and rookie of the year. In 2006 he ran the same division finishing 2nd in points. Thorn also competed in the last two ASA Late Model Series events of 06 finishing 4th at LaCrosse Fairgrounds Speedway and 2nd at the Music City Motorplex.
Thorn would move to Wisconsin in 2007 and run the ASA Late Model Series Challenge Division full time. Thorn ended the season 5th in points, 2 points behind the rookie of the year. 2008 Thorn was named driver for Shawn Keep Inc. of Madison, Wi. The team ran part time in the NASCAR Camping World East Series capturing a top 5 at The Music City Motorplex, top 10 at the Mansfield Motorsports Park, and a top 15 at the New Hampshire Motor Speedway including 5 top 10 qualifying efforts in 6 starts. The ASA Late Model Series was also run part time capturing 5th at O'Reilly Raceway Park at Indianapolis and 5th at The Milwaukee Mile.
